WIP Friday.... A little progress

I played with my scraps a little more last night. And made a little more progress. I took your suggestions and added the yellow to the corners, but I also wound up cutting more of the dotted fabric. It just seemed a little blah with just the yellow. I am thinking that the remaining spaces might wind up being white. I'm not sure yet. The pictures just do not pick up the colors and how bright they are very well.

Here is a better shot of one of the corners, too.

A little help please?

I am working on this scrap quilt and I'm not sure what to do next. I decided to try the 2 inch grid interfacing. You just iron them on to the interfacing and then sew down the seams in each direction. I thought it might be good for scrap quilting. I am stumped, however. I don't know which direction I go with fabric from here. I have a lot more of the black fabric with the dots, I have some yellow gingham, some red gingham, some pink gingham, some more of the black gingham and then some white, and then the three fat quarters at the bottom that I thought might work. I want it to be fun, but not overpowering. I's be willing to purchase a little bit of fabric if you guys think I need something that I don't have, but I don't want to buy a whole lot more. I'm afraid if I use too many more patterns it will just make your eyes hurt! LOL

Gift giving...

I just finished a few gifts and I thought I would share them with you.

I couldn't show you this one before because I wanted the recipient to get it before pictures went up. Here is "Dot" made for a special little guy who had a birthday.

One of Jason's co-workers became a grandmother for the first time... and second time.... all within the last week. How's that for a life changing week? Her son now has a little boy and her daughter now has a little girl. I made these for each of them as gifts. The bibs are reversible and I sort of took my own twist on Amanda's tutorial. For the burp cloths I followed this tutorial, well sort of anyway. :)

Here is the girl's set. I love this floweredey fabric!

And here is the boy's set.

All in all a pretty easy, fun, inexpensive project.
The package of diapers was about $12.00 (and I still have 4 left), I used 8 fat quarters that I got for $.99 each, two packages of bias tape at $1.60 each and scraps of batting that I had leftover from quilts. That comes out to about $9.50 for each set. I found that you could actually get two two bibs and one burp cloth out of 2 fat quarters if you laid them out right. I just chose to do one bib of each combination for the sake of getting them done in a timely manner. I actually could have done two of each combination.

I have some other projects waiting in the wings, too, but I will save those for another post.

Just saw the coolest thing...

Once again, something from Simply Quilts that is just plain cool... Check it out.
I sooo have to make at least one of these! Supposedly there are supposed to be at least 17 million different combinations that can be made!

A Question....

I'm wondering if any of you out there have ever purchased fabric by the bolt or wholesale. I know that I would need to get a tax ID number for it, that isn't a huge deal. I am just wondering how much fabric you typically need to buy for an initial order. I am thinking of going this route for my Etsy stuff, but wondering if it would be worth it. My thought is that I could make outfits available in different sizes then, instead of buying just enough for one outfit. I just don't know what's the best route to go.

I haven't even really felt like sewing much this week. The outfit for Etsy was going well, but the sleeves are being a bit of a problem. Nothing I can't fix, I just don't feel like messing with it right now. I think it's because I have to work at the bank late tomorrow (til 7:00) and then Saturday morning as well, and that just doesn't sound like any fun to me right now. Maybe I will feel more like sewing Saturday afternoon. Who knows. It has also been really cold out and when it is cold out, my sewing room is a little chilly, too. I dislike being cold and it is cold in the bank all day, so I don't want to sit in a cold sewing room all evening either.

Sorry for griping, I think I'm just in a gripey mood.
Maybe I'll go find some chocolate...

Sneak peek and an awesome quilt...

Here is a little peek at the fabrics for the new set I am making for Etsy. It is going together really well so far, so it looks like my pattern modifications are going to work! :)

I also wanted to link to this quilt. I absolutely love the blue and the randomness and the color values of this quilt! It was featured at Sew Mama Sew a few days ago. They have featured a lot of really gorgeous quilts this month. Go check them out.

Something for Etsy, and the further adventures in pattern drafting...

I picked up 3 of these little bodysuits last summer on clearance and I just got around to figuring out what to do with one of them. I thought it turned out pretty cute. :) Nice quick little project for Etsy.

I started in on another outfit for Etsy today, too. I figured I'd better get geared up a little for spring. It also seems like things get listed so fast at Etsy that they get buried a bunch of pages down in a hurry. Something can go from being on the first page down about 50 pages in like 2 days. It's crazy!

The new outfit will be a "float" top and a pair of pants that are gathered and cuffed mid calf in a size 3t. The top is essentially a full circle gathered on to a high yoke and then has a ruffle around the hem. The fabric is wild and crazy, but that's what you all said you liked. ;) It is a bright, BIG, hot pink, red, yellow, green, white and black paisley and the pants are a sort of sqiggley hot pink and white stripe. I am fairly certain that my pattern modifications will be ok, but figuring out the full circle thing was kind of weird. Once I figured out a couple of things, then it started to make sense, and I think it will work ok. I just washed the fabric and I am waiting for it to dry, then I can iron it and start cutting out! Wish me luck! :)

Darn Bots...

For those of you wondering why I enabled the comment moderation on my blog, here's why. I got spammed by a bot yesterday that was looking to install spyware on anyone who clicked on the link in the comment. Therefore, the comment moderation. It isn't that I don't trust you all to post appropriate comments, I just don't want another bot to post another link and someone pick up spyware by clicking on it. I guess that's how it has to be.

I also wanted to say thank you for the Anniversary wishes! You all are so nice.

10 years...

10 years ago today my sweet Jason and I said "I do". It hasn't always been easy, but I can't imagine life with anyone else!

New Image...

I added a new image to some items at my Cafe Press shop. I don't update things at that site nearly as often as I should, LOL. I kind of just forget about it.
Here is a close up of the new image. If you are interested, I can put it on a good number of different items at Cafe Press.

"Turning Twenty"

My sweet, smart, funny, crazy niece Kayla will be turning twenty years old this coming July. I can hardly believe it. I can remember the day she was born almost like yesterday. I remember holding her only an hour or so after she was born, her little ears were still kind of folded up, LOL. When she was little, I lived near my sister and her family and Kayla was my little shadow much of the time. Now she is all grown up and attempting to take on the world.

In honor of the event, I am making her a "turning twenty" quilt. It uses 20 fat quarters with almost no waste at all. I finished the top today. I'll put this away for a while now, since her birthday isn't until the end of July, but it feels good to have this much of it finished this early. This will be my biggest quilt to date. It is pretty much a twin size quilt.

My week in pictures...

I finished my little "Celebrate Spring" Moda quilt on Saturday.

Aeris is my official quilt inspector.

Apparently it passes the test.

I organized my closet, for which I also had my official helper-kitty. She took up residence here for a while when I finished.

I got a good start on Kayla's "Turning Twenty".

My amaryllis that I received for Christmas bloomed.

And finally, I thought I'd show you what the trees look like out my back window this morning. I'm not a big fan of winter, but the trees do look pretty sometimes.
